Hourly or local tour?

Know which one fits a guest's day in the city, and how each is priced.

Both give a guest a car and driver for a day in your city. The difference is what the guest buys: time, or the places they visit.

Hourly: a block of time

The guest keeps the car for a set number of hours and km. They do not say where they are going. They can stop wherever they like inside the package.

Hourly is sold as packages, such as 4 hours and 40 km, or 8 hours and 80 km. You set a price for each one. The guest gives a pickup, a date and a time, then picks a car and a package from your list.

Local tour: the places the guest names

The guest names a start, the places to visit, and a drop. They also choose how long the car waits at the places, from 1 to 8 hours.

A local tour is priced on the whole loop: start, each place, the drop, and the drive back to the start. You set a fare that covers some km, a price for each km after that, and a price per hour of waiting.

On your booking form the guest sees Visit 1, Visit 2 and so on, with Add visiting place. They can add up to four places by default. You can allow up to six. The drop is optional: left blank, the car drops them back at the start.

Which one should I sell?

You can sell both. A guest who wants the car all day with no fixed plan is an hourly guest. A guest who wants three places in the morning is a local tour guest. They pay for the drive and the waiting, not for a full day.

When you sell both, your site shows both. The guest picks the one with the better price for their plan.

How the fare adds up

Sedan with two packages: 4 hours / 40 km at ₹1,400, and 8 hours / 80 km at ₹2,400. Extra hour ₹250, Extra km ₹14.

The guest sees both and picks the 8-hour one:

Sedan, 8 hours and 80 km₹2,400
Total₹2,400

Local tour. Sedan: ₹1,500 covers 60 km, ₹16 a km after, waiting ₹200 an hour, 1 hour free. A 78 km loop with 3 hours of waiting:

Sedan local tour, up to 60 km₹1,500
18 km beyond the 60 km included, at ₹16 per km₹288
2 hrs waiting, beyond the 1 hr included at ₹200 per hour₹400
Total₹2,188

Paid at the end

On hourly, nobody knows at booking how long the guest keeps the car. Your Extra hour and Extra km prices are shown to the guest under "Not included". The driver collects them when the trip ends.

On a local tour, the waiting is in the price. If the car waits longer than the guest chose, the driver collects the extra hours at your Waiting price. Lesson 5.8 has the full list.

Common questions

Does an hourly guest have to tell me the plan?

No. Hourly is time, not a route. They pay extra only if they go past the package's hours or km.

Why does a local tour charge for the drive back?

That is where your car goes home to. The guest sees each leg on the quote, including the way back.

What if the places are far apart?

A local tour stays inside your city. A place far from the city centre, or a loop that is too long, turns the booking into an enquiry. Lesson 5.5 has the limits.

Can I set how many places a guest adds?

Yes. Most stops on the local tour card, from 1 to 6.
