One way or round trip?

Know which one a guest is booking, and how each one is priced.

Both take a guest out of the city. The difference is who comes back.

One way: a drop

The guest goes from your city to another city and stays there. Your car comes back empty, and that return is not in the fare.

A one way is priced per destination. You set a fixed fare for the places guests ask for most. That list is your route sheet. For anywhere else, you set a price per km, with a minimum so a short drop is still worth the trip.

Round trip: the car stays with the guest

The guest keeps the car and driver, goes out, and comes back to your city. It can be one day or many. They can add stops on the way, up to eight.

A round trip is priced per day. Each day comes with a minimum number of km. The guest pays for the days, plus any km beyond what the days include, plus the driver's daily costs (Driver allowance) for each day. The km count both ways: there and back.

How the fare adds up

Same car for both.

Bengaluru to Mysuru (on the route sheet, ₹3,200):

Sedan to Mysuru₹3,200
Total₹3,200

Bengaluru to Kolar (not on the sheet, 68 km, under your 130 km minimum at ₹14 a km):

130 km minimum at ₹14 per km₹1,820
Total₹1,820

The guest pays for the minimum, because the drive is shorter.

Sedan, ₹12 a km, 300 km a day, ₹300 a day driver allowance. Bengaluru to Mysuru and back, 2 days. Mysuru is about 145 km, so the trip is 290 km there and back. Two days include 600 km.

2 days at ₹3,600 per day, 300 km a day included₹7,200
Driver allowance, 2 days₹600
Total₹7,800

Back the same day. Pickup and return on the same date is 1 day, 290 km.

Sedan day rate, 300 km a day included₹3,600
Driver allowance, 1 day₹300
Total₹3,900

A guest who comes back the same day should book a round trip, not two one ways. Your site shows each guest the price for what they asked for.

Paid at the end

The price is for the trip the guest asked for. What nobody knows when they book is settled with the driver when the trip ends: km beyond what the days include (at your Per km), tolls and parking if you set them to be paid at actuals, night driving after the first night, and the driver's room on a long trip if you ask for it. Your site lists these under "Not included", so the guest knows before they book. Lesson 5.8 has the full list.

Tax, a night charge (once per booking, if the pickup is in your night hours) and a flat toll change every total the same way, whichever service it is. They are in lesson 5.7.

Do it

  1. Open Sell, then What you sell.
  2. In each city, switch on One way, Outstation, or both. (On your dashboard, Outstation is the round trip.)
  3. Open Rate cards and set the prices: Outstation one way for drops, Outstation round trip for trips that come back.
  4. Click Publish on each card.

Common questions

A destination is not on my route sheet. What does the guest see?

A price per km, with your minimum. If you have no per km price, they send you an enquiry and you call back with a fare.

Why is there no Driver allowance on a one way?

The driver is with the guest for one drive. On a round trip the driver stays out with them, so you charge for each day.

Who pays for the driver's room on a long trip?

Multi-day round trips list it under "Not included", as something the guest pays if you ask for it.

The guest drove more than they booked. What now?

The driver collects the extra km at your Per km price when the trip ends. The guest saw that rate under "Not included" when they booked.

Can I sell only round trips?

Yes. Switch One way off in that city.

My dashboard says Outstation, my site says Outstation. Same thing?

Yes. Your dashboard uses the same names in every country. Your site uses the words guests in your country search for.
