Edit your pages and publish

Change the words on your site, move and hide sections, and put it live when you are ready.

Plan: everyone with a booking site

Your site's words are yours to change. You edit a draft beside a live preview, and guests see nothing until you publish.

Draft first, then publish

Everything you change in the Site editor goes into a draft. The preview on the right shows the draft as you type. Your live site stays as it was.

ButtonWhat it does
SaveKeeps your draft. Nothing goes live
Save and publishKeeps your draft and puts it live
HistoryLists every version you published. Restore into draft brings an old one back, for you to check and publish
Discard changesThrows away the draft and goes back to what is live

The publish button names what is waiting, such as Publish home page or Publish 3 changes. That way you know what guests are about to see.

Pages and sections

The list on the left is grouped by page: Home, Fleet, Booking, Contact and Policies. Each page is made of sections, such as Hero (the first screen) or Our fleet.

Some sections show on more than one page, such as the footer. They sit under Across pages. Edit one once and every page listed changes.

Move and hide sections on the home page

Click a section in the preview to open its menu:

ChoiceWhat it does
Move up, Move downChanges the order on the page
HideTakes it off the page. Your words are kept
Change lookSome sections can be drawn in another way, such as a list or cards

The first screen, with your headline and the booking form, always stays at the top. Guests always meet the form first.

To show a hidden section again, open it in the list on the left and switch on Show (the switch reads "Show Hero on the site", with the section's name).

What you do not edit here

Your cities, services, cars and prices are set in Where you sell, What you sell, Vehicles and Rate cards. The site shows them for you, so there is only ever one copy of each. Your business name, logo and phone are in Settings, under Business. Words for Google, and the city and service pages, are in Search and Pages (lesson 6.5).

Do it

  1. Open Sell, then Site editor.
  2. Pick a section in the list on the left, such as Hero, and change its words. The preview follows as you type.
  3. To move a section, click it in the preview, then Move up or Move down. Hide takes it off the page.
  4. Click Save and publish.

You will see "Published", and guests see the changes straight away.

Common questions

I clicked Save. Why is my site the same?

Save keeps your draft but does not put it live. Click Publish when you are ready.

I published by mistake. Can I go back?

Yes. Click History, pick the version before, and click Restore into draft. Then publish it.

Can I move the booking form under the headline?

On some looks, yes. Open Booking form and choose Where the form sits (lesson 6.3).

Why can I not move the first screen?

It holds the booking form. Keeping it at the top means every guest can book without scrolling.
