Vehicle classes, not cars: or similar

Sell the kind of car a guest gets, so any car of that kind can do the trip.

Plan: everyone with a booking site

On your site, a guest does not book one car. They book a class: a kind of car, with its seats and bags. Any car of that class can do the trip.

Why a class

You may have five sedans, or none of your own on a busy day. The guest does not need to know which one comes. They need to know how many people and bags fit.

So each class says what it is, and names a few example cars ending in "or similar". That is the usual way to say it, and it matters. When a different car of the same kind turns up, the guest was told it might.

What a class holds

FieldWhat it does
What guests seeThe class name, for example "Sedan" or "Tempo Traveller"
Cars in this classA few example models, ending in "or similar"
SeatsSeats for guests, not counting the driver
BagsHow many bags fit
PictureOne photo or drawing of the class. Pick from the Library or Upload your own
Short codeA short name for the class, such as tempo. Set once

Your site lists your classes in the order you set with the arrows. Put the one you sell most at the top.

The four you start with

When we built your site, we added four classes, from a small car up to a large SUV, each with a picture. Their names and example cars are the usual ones in your country. Change them to match your fleet, or add more.

A class needs a price

A new class shows "Not on any price list yet, so guests are never quoted it". That is the next step: give it a price on each rate card you want it on. Lesson 4.2 explains what a guest sees until you do.

Do it

  1. Open Sell, then Vehicles.
  2. Click Add vehicle.
  3. Fill in What guests see, Cars in this class, Seats and Bags.
  4. Click Choose a picture. Pick one from the Library, or click Upload to use your own photo.
  5. Type a Short code.
  6. Click Add vehicle.
  7. Use the arrows to move it up or down the list.

Common questions

Can I change the short code later?

No. Quotes you have already given refer to it. The name, cars, seats, bags and picture can all be changed with Edit.

I have two kinds of SUV at different prices.

Make two classes, such as "SUV" and "Premium SUV". Each class gets its own price on every card.

Can I delete a class?

Only if no rate card has ever priced it. Once it has a price, switch Sold off instead, so old quotes still make sense (lesson 4.2).

Does a guest see the picture?

Yes, in your fleet on the site and when they pick a car.
